Privacy Collection Notice

This notice explains why Dealbusters Ltd. (New Zealand), trading as NZ.Finance / nz.finance (we, us, our), collects your personal information — and what happens with it when you use our website, platform or services.

01

Why we’re collecting your information

We collect your personal information (including credit-related information and, where relevant and lawful, sensitive information) so that we can provide our products and services to you — including your NZ.Finance application or discovery journey, broker workflows, and related platform features. We also collect it to:

  • provide you with access to our website and platform;
  • answer your questions and support requests;
  • identify you;
  • undertake our fraud prevention measures;
  • deal with any complaints or concerns you may have;
  • comply with our obligations (including under relevant laws and regulations, and our internal policies);
  • provide information about products, services and special offers that may be of interest to you (including by SMS, social media, email, telephone or mail) — you can opt out of marketing at any time;
  • develop and improve our products and services; and
  • undertake any other relevant purposes for which you have provided your consent.
02

How we collect your information

We will generally collect your information from you — for example when you use our website or platform, complete forms, upload documents, or speak with us.

We may also collect information about you from third parties (such as service providers who help us deliver our products and services, credit reporting agencies, identity verification services, banks with your authorisation, brokers, Product Providers, and others authorised by you or the Privacy Act 2020).

03

Laws which require or authorise collection

Sometimes the information we collect is required or authorised to be collected by law. For example, we may verify your identity under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 and related regulations. Where you authorise us to obtain credit information on your behalf, we may deal with credit reporting agencies and obtain a credit report about you under the Privacy Act 2020 and applicable credit reporting rules.

Where you share banking data with us under our CDR Policy or other open banking arrangements, collection and use of that data is also governed by those arrangements and your consent.

04

What happens if you don’t provide your information

If you do not provide the information we need, we may be unable to provide our products or services to you — including progressing an application, verifying your identity, or arranging finance or insurance with Product Providers.

05

Who we disclose your information to

We may disclose your information:

  • to your broker or adviser for the purpose of assisting them to assess your suitability for a credit or insurance product;
  • to prospective funders, lenders, insurers and other Product Providers in relation to your finance or insurance requirements;
  • to credit reporting agencies when obtaining credit-related information about you;
  • to other individuals who intend to apply for a credit product with you as a co-applicant via the NZ.Finance application journey;
  • to third parties (such as service providers) who help us provide our products and services or fulfil the purposes for which we collect your information;
  • to companies and contractors we retain to provide services for us, such as providers of fraud prevention, hosting, communications and analytics services;
  • to our auditors, insurers and re-insurers;
  • to claims-related providers, such as assessors and investigators who help with claims;
  • where we are authorised to do so by law, or to government and law enforcement agencies or regulators;
  • to investors, agents or advisers, trustees, rating agencies or any entity that has an interest in your finance or our business;
  • to other companies associated with or related to us;
  • to other individuals or companies who represent you; and
  • to any person where you have provided us consent.

Third-party service providers and agencies we may use include providers that help us to:

  • verify your identity (including electronic identity checks against official records where available);
  • securely connect with your financial account(s) (including bank-statement or open banking tools you authorise); and
  • obtain credit-related information from credit reporting agencies on your behalf where you authorise us to do so.

Your personal information is collected, used, disclosed and held by us in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

06

Customer identification

We may disclose your name, residential address and date of birth to a credit reporting agency or other organisation (including a document issuer or official records holder) to verify your identity. That organisation will use this information to give us an assessment or report of whether the information we have matches information they hold, and that may involve use of third-party systems and services. If we use these methods and are unable to verify your identity this way, we will let you know.

We may also use information from your New Zealand passport, driver licence, Kiwi Access card, birth certificate, citizenship documents and other identification documents to match those details with the relevant registries using third-party systems, and to record the results of that matching.

If you do not consent to us disclosing your information in this way, we may verify your identity in another way, which may involve requiring you to provide supporting identification documents (either original or certified copies).

07

Overseas disclosures

We may disclose your personal information to service providers and cloud / IT infrastructure located outside New Zealand (for example hosting, communications or support tools that help us operate nz.finance). Where we do so, we take steps that are reasonable in the circumstances to ensure your information is protected in a manner consistent with New Zealand privacy requirements, including through contractual arrangements where appropriate.

More detail is set out in our Privacy Policy and, for banking data shared under consent, our CDR Policy.

08
